What Is Actually Inside an Animated Halloween Figure
The decorative shell is the part buyers judge. The motor, gearbox and cord underneath are the part that decides whether it comes back in year two.
A six-foot animated figure sells itself on the shop floor. It moves, people stop, it goes in the cart. Nobody buys the second one from you if it stops moving halfway through the following October.
Which is a problem, because the part that decides that is the part nobody looks at.

The architecture
Strip the costume off and almost every animated figure in this category is the same four things:
- A base plate — stamped steel, heavy enough that the figure does not walk itself off a display plinth when it moves.
- A motor and gearbox — the motor spins fast and weak; the gearbox turns that into slow and strong. This is where cheap units fail.
- A wiring harness and controller — the sensor, the timing, and on lit pieces the LED driver.
- A cord set — the moulded plug, the strain relief where the cable enters the housing, and any transformer.
The decorative shell — the carved head, the moss, the fabric, the hands — bolts on top of that. It is the part your customer photographs and the part your merchandiser approves. It is also the part that almost never fails.

Where these actually fail
Three places, in order of how often we see them:
The gearbox. A seasonal display is not a light duty cycle. A figure on a store floor runs on a motion sensor from open to close, six or eight weeks straight, then sits in a warehouse for eleven months. Nylon gears strip. Metal gears do not, and the difference in unit cost is small enough that it is never the reason a programme is priced out.
The strain relief. Where the cord enters the body. Displays get moved, cords get yanked, and the cheapest possible moulding cracks at exactly that point. Once it does, the unit is no longer safe to sell or to keep on a floor.
The sensor. Cheap PIR sensors either trigger on nothing, which drains the whole season of motor life in the first fortnight, or stop triggering at all. Neither shows up in a sample that sat on a desk for a week.
What to ask for, specifically
The generic question — “is it good quality” — gets a generic answer. These get real ones:

That last one matters more than it sounds. A sample built by the R&D team in the sampling room is not the same object as unit 1,400 off a production run.
Why we film them
Every animated style in the line has a video on its product card, not just a photograph. Partly that is honest merchandising — a still photo of a figure that moves is a bad description of what you are buying. But it is also the fastest way to answer the question a buyer actually has, which is how it moves: the arc, the speed, whether it is one axis or two.

Our position on this
Powered lines carry UL or ETL, and the certificate travels with the SKU rather than with the order. Eight QC technicians work the partner lines, every piece carries a one year warranty, and BV, TÜV or SGS inspection can be booked before the container loads — which is the only point where a finding on a motor batch is still cheap to fix.
None of that is unusual. What is unusual is being asked for it. Ask.
